How we took a Western Sydney furniture retailer into the top 3 of a brutal market

Monster Furniture had the range and the prices, but no organic visibility to show for it. Three months of foundations, content and authority building later, the traffic curve changed shape.

The problem

Monster Furniture is a big box furniture retailer in the heart of Western Sydney, selling pieces for pretty much every room in the home at prices that undercut the chains. The catch: retail furniture is one of the most competitive organic markets in the country, and they were nowhere in it.

They believed in the value they could deliver online, and so did we. The brief was to take their existing website and turn it into something that could actually be found: more organic visibility, more traffic, and more enquiries about their range.

What we did

Our initial audit turned up missing foundations, the kind of thing that quietly caps every organic campaign. Optimised metadata and page copy simply weren't there. We ran extensive keyword research to work out which terms in the retail furniture space were genuinely winnable, then went to work.

1Keyword research that reflects the marketWe mapped the retail furniture space to find the terms with genuine buying intent, and the low-hanging fruit worth chasing first.
2Fixed the metadata foundationsTitle tags and meta descriptions were rewritten across the site using the priority terms from our research.
3Rewrote the copy with NatchOur copywriters prepared SEO content for the homepage and key categories, run through Natch, our proprietary tool built on Google's Natural Language API, to check we were covering what Google expects to see.
4Built authority with linksA link building campaign prospected relevant

From here we're continuing onsite, with optimised content across the remaining category pages, and growing relevance in the organic listings through authority link building. The foundations are in; now it compounds.
