Google Search Refurbished computers

How we grew Recompute's organic revenue 286% and organic traffic 900%

Recompute sold great-value refurbished computers but was nowhere on Google, burnt by an agency that over-promised. Foundations, new pages, a disavow and link building turned that into a 900% traffic lift.

The problem

Founded in 2001, Recompute has set the standard for customer service and product quality in refurbished computers, at prices that represent real value. The website, formerly bargainseeker.com.au, was built to serve customers wherever they were. The only problem was that nobody could find it on Google.

A previous SEO agency had over-promised and under-delivered, so Recompute were ready for a change. After a successful Google Ads and Shopping campaign with us, we got the chance to prove we could walk the SEO walk. With traffic and revenue plateaued, the brief was to lift organic visibility and win competitive, valuable terms like refurbished laptops and refurbished computers.

What we did

We audited the SEO basics across every key page, metadata, heading tags and page copy, and found none of it was optimised for the target keywords. We also audited the backlink profile and disavowed the nasty links the previous agency had built. From there it was about content, new pages and authority.

1Fixed the foundations and disavowed bad linksMetadata, heading tags and page copy were reworked around the target keywords, and the previous agency's toxic backlinks were disavowed.
2New content with TF-IDF optimisationFresh copy for the homepage and main category pages supported the new metadata, with TF-IDF optimisation giving Google the context it needed.
3Expanded the categoriesWe created new pages for different brands and capital cities, plus pages for buyers such as pensioners and students looking for a refurbished laptop.
4Built authority with linksA link acquisition campaign prospected relevant, high-quality tech domains and placed links that lifted the authority of the Recompute domain.
The expanded site navigation: refurbished laptop pages for each capital city, ex-government and pensioner laptops, and brand categories.
